Call for Tutorial/Workshop Proposals

The 2014 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC2014) is seeking proposals for Tutorials and Workshops in research and application topics that are relevant to the areas of systems science and engineering, human-machine systems, or cybernetics.

Tutorials

At SMC2014, tutorials will provide an opportunity for conference attendees to explore cutting-edge topics; acquire new insights, knowledge, and skills; and learn from leaders in the field.

Both half-day and full-day tutorials are encouraged. Criteria for selection are relevance to the major SMC topics, technical expertise of the tutorial leader/leaders, anticipated level of interest, and impact.

Each proposal should include the following:

  • Title for the proposed tutorial workshop
  • Workshop length (half-day or full-day)
  • List of presenters
  • Brief (one sentence) statement of the tutorial goal
  • Brief (one paragraph) synopsis of the tutorial content
  • Outline of major topics

Free admission to the tutorials will be given to all attendees who have specified their choice on the on-line registration form when they register for SMC2014. For those attendees who are not preregistered, admission to the tutorials will be on a space available basis.

Workshops

At SMC2014, workshops will enable conference attendees to discuss and exchange ideas on selected topics. The duration may be half day or full day.  Workshops should be interactive, not mini conferences. Workshops with creative organization that ensures strong interactions among the participants are desirable.  It is preferred that the organizers of workshops are from different organizations in order to bring different perspectives to the topic.

All papers submitted to workshops will be reviewed by the SMC2014 program committee and be considered for publication in the conference proceedings and IEEE Xplore.

Each proposal should include the following:

  • Title for the proposed tutorial workshop
  • Workshop length (half-day or full-day)
  • List of presenters
  • Brief (one sentence) statement of the workshop goal
  • Brief (one paragraph) synopsis of the workshop content
  • Outline of major topics

Free admission to the workshops will be given to all attendees who have specified their choice on the on-line registration form when they register for SMC2014. For those attendees who are not preregistered, admission to the workshops will be on a space available basis.

As a token of appreciation, SMC2014 will provide the following to the organizers of accepted tutorials and workshops:

  • For half day tutorials/workshops that have a minimum of ten (10) preregistered participants, the conference registration fee will be waived for one (1) speaker.
  • For full day tutorials/workshops that have a minimum 10 preregistered participants, the conference registration fee will be waived for up to two (2) speakers.
  • If there are fewer than ten (10) preregistered participants, the offer will be prorated.
  • If there are fewer than six (6) preregistered participants, the tutorial/workshop will be cancelled.
